If you’ve been on social media lately, you’ve probably seen the viral dot cake trend everywhere. The colorful frosting dots and cute individual servings are hard to miss. I saw so many that I had to try myself…. but wanted to do something a little different.
So, as an Ohio girl, I immediately had a different idea.
What if I took the viral dot cake and gave it a Buckeye-inspired flavor makeover? I mean who doesn’t love peanut butter an chocolate!!!

Instead of traditional frosting, I paired rich chocolate cake with a creamy peanut butter buttercream made with Jif Natural peanut butter. Then I topped everything with red, white, and black sprinkles for a fun Ohio touch. Let me tell you… this frosting is AMAZING!!!! And this is coming from a girl that doesn’t usually love frosting.
The result is a dessert inspired by Ohio’s famous Buckeye candy, combining the classic chocolate and peanut butter flavor combination we all know and love.
I started with a simple boxed chocolate cake mix, which means you can put these together without spending hours in the kitchen. I layered the cake into 4-ounce mason jars, spread peanut butter buttercream dots across the top, and finished them with sprinkles.
They’re perfect for graduation parties, summer cookouts, football season, family gatherings, or anytime you need a dessert that’s as cute as it is delicious.
And while I used red, white, and black sprinkles for my Ohio Buckeye version, you can easily customize the colors for birthdays, holidays, baby showers, weddings, or your favorite team.
