There’s just something about Memorial Day and 4th of July weekend food that makes everybody happy. Hot dogs, sunshine, backyard parties, kids running around… it’s just the best!
I wanted to make something festive that looked cute but was also EASY.
So I made an American flag out of hot dogs and buns — and it turned out way cuter than I expected.

Here’s How I Put It Together
I started with a large serving board/tray and lined up the hot dogs and buns in rows to create the “stripes” of the flag.
For the blue section, I used blue corn chips in the corner of the tray. Then I used small star cookie cutters to cut stars out of slices of white cheese and placed them on top.
That’s literally it.
Simple. Festive. Everyone immediately understood what it was supposed to be… and honestly it makes such a fun centerpiece for a cookout.
A Few Things That Helped
- A large serving board or tray makes arranging everything much easier
- Mini star cookie cutters are the secret to making it look extra cute
- Gold serving tongs or cute serving pieces make it feel a little more elevated for parties
- This works for both Memorial Day and the 4th of July
The Best Part
I love party food that people actually eat.
Sometimes the super complicated Pinterest ideas look amazing… but nobody wants to touch them because they’re too pretty. This one feels fun, relaxed, and very “grab a hot dog and enjoy yourself.”
And if you’re hosting this summer, this is one of those ideas people will definitely remember.

I’ve linked the serving board and the little star cookie cutters I used because they made this SO easy to put together.
