This viral keto chicken calzone has been all over Instagram, and I had to try it. If you’ve spent any time on Instagram lately, you’ve probably seen this viral chicken “calzone” dinner popping up everywhere — and for good reason. It’s high-protein, low-carb, and surprisingly satisfying, without feeling like “diet food.”
Instead of traditional dough, this version uses chicken as the base, making it a great option if you’re trying to boost protein at dinner or cut back on refined carbs.

Ingredients
- 1½–2 lbs ground chicken (I ground my own using my food chopper! I love this thing, had it for years!)
- 1 egg
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- Salt & pepper, to taste
Filling ideas:
- Mozzarella or provolone slices
- Turkey pepperoni or cooked sausage
- Spinach, mushrooms, or bell peppers
- Marinara or pizza sauce (optional for serving)
Air Fryer Instructions
- Preheat air fryer to 400°F.
- In a bowl, mix the ground chicken, egg, Parmesan cheese, and seasonings until well combined.
- Place a sheet of air-fryer-safe parchment paper on the counter.
- Press the chicken mixture into a thin oval or circle, about ½-inch thick.
- Add your fillings to one half of the chicken base.
- Use the parchment paper to carefully fold the chicken over the fillings, creating a calzone shape. Gently press the edges to seal together using a fork.
- Transfer the parchment with the folded calzone directly into the air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 400°F for 12 minutes, until cooked through and lightly golden.
- Let rest for a few minutes before slicing.
Enjoy! My family loved it!
