My Top 10 Places to Take Out-of-Town Guests in Cleveland
I’ve lived in Northeast in Ohio my whole life… and even though I’m in the suburbs we pretty much all say we’re “from Cleveland” around here. This topic of conversation came up the other day so I put together a list to share on our podcast “Start Your Day Positive“. Here’s the list…. Let me know if you’d add anything different!
1. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
This is always stop #1 — you can’t come to Cleveland without seeing the Rock Hall! The building itself is iconic, and inside, it’s a walk through music history. Even if you’re not a die-hard fan, it’s a great stop in Cleveland. And while you’re there… don’t miss taking a picture by the Cleveland sign near the waterfront near the Rock Hall for memories.
2. Wade Oval & Cleveland Botanical Garden
If I want to show guests a more relaxed, scenic side of the city, head to University Circle. Wade Oval is such a charming spot — there’s always something happening depending on the season, from outdoor concerts to ice skating. We’ve had our family pictures done here… it’s beautiful. And Cleveland Museum of Art is located on Wade Oval, so you can do it all in one day. In addition, nearby is the Cleveland Botanical Garden…. The butterfly garden, the glasshouse rainforest, the flowers — it’s peaceful and beautiful.
3. Cleveland Museum of Art
This place always surprises guests — it’s stunning, and even better, it’s free! I love walking through the galleries, especially the atrium area, which is just a beautiful space to relax in for a bit.
4. West Side Market
A great stop in Cleveland! I always recommend grabbing a snack (or three) while walking through. You’ll find pierogis, gyros, pastries, and local flavors you can’t get anywhere else. It’s Cleveland culture under one big historic roof.
5. Playhouse Square
It’s like our own little Broadway! If there’s a show in town, try to snag tickets — the theaters are gorgeous, and walking under the world’s largest outdoor chandelier always makes a great impression. Great restaurants nearby in the theater district as well!
6. East 4th Street
This is where I take friends when we want to eat well and enjoy a fun downtown vibe. The string lights overhead, live music sometimes, and top-notch restaurants make it one of my go-to spots for dinner or drinks. Great place to snag dinner for a Guardians or Cavs game! Barrio is one of our favorite restaurant choices if you like Mexican food.
7. A Game at Progressive Field, Cleveland Browns Stadium, or Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse
Depending on the season, taking in a game is a great idea. The energy is awesome, and there’s nothing like being surrounded by Cleveland fans. If it’s baseball season, Progressive Field is especially fun with its food options and skyline views.
8. Cleveland Metroparks
We’re blessed to have so much green space around the city. Whether it’s hiking in the Rocky River Reservation, walking the trails at the Zoo, or just getting out for some fresh air — there’s always a perfect outdoor option close by.
9. Little Italy & University Circle
This is one of the city’s most charming areas. Take guests for a meal in Little Italy (don’t skip dessert at Presti’s!), and if there’s time, pop into the museums nearby or stroll through the beautiful gardens at the Cultural Gardens. Trattoria is a favorite dinner choice of ours.
10. The Flats / East Bank
For nightlife or just a fun afternoon by the water, the Flats never disappoint. Grab a patio seat at a riverside spot, watch the boats go by, and soak up some of that laid-back Cleveland vibe. They call it Clevelands premier tourist district!
