This past Valentine’s Day, I asked my husband for a walking pad. Yes. I asked for it.
Not flowers.
Not jewelry.
A walking pad.
I had been researching walking pads and found one for just over $100 — such a good deal — and I knew it would make staying consistent so much easier. I can walk while answering emails, watching a show, or just when I don’t feel like going out in the cold. I mean walking while binging your favorite show counts as cardio! You were gonna watch it anyway, right?
And because we’re clearly in our “practical romance” era… I also ordered myself an 8-pound weighted vest for $14.99 too.

These portable walking pads are so nice! They are so easy to move around too.
But before you think I’ve gone full fitness girl… He also brought home my favorite chocolates from Malley’s Chocolates — Salty Mae’s. (They are sooo good. And only come out certain times of the year).
I mean they’re like… hide-them-from-your-family good. (I’m not the only who does this right?!) haha
Anyway…. here’s what I’ve finally learned so far at 45. For me at least, it’s not about extremes.
It’s about balance. I’ve tried the extremes. They make me cranky and stressed. The 80/20 rule works for me — disciplined enough to build strength, and consistency… but flexible enough to enjoy life.
I’m not necessarily chasing a number on the scale anymore.
I’m chasing strength. love. peace.
I’m strength training at the gym.
I’m walking at home.
Not only because I’d like to tone up… But because I want to feel strong at 65. Because strength and chocolate can absolutely coexist.
And that… finally, feels sustainable.
Let me know if this resonates with you too…
Hugs,
Sara 🙂
And PS… Shout out to my bootie covering sweater I found for like $10! I’ve officially reached the age where sweatshirt length and comfort means more than a brand name. Ha! It’s from Walmart and here’s the link – Long Sweatshirt. (I’m wearing a large for oversized look)
